Door Compatibility Guide

Our entrance handles are designed to work with a wide range of door types. Use this guide to confirm compatibility before ordering, or email hello@entrancehandles.co.nz with your door specifications for personalised advice.

Timber Doors

Compatibility: All handle styles and smart locks

Our handles are ideal for solid timber entrance doors. Standard through-bolt fixings are included and work with doors from 35mm to 70mm thick. For doors outside this range, contact us for custom-length bolts.

  • Solid timber — fully compatible
  • Engineered timber — fully compatible
  • Timber with glass panels — compatible (mount on timber section)

Aluminium Doors

Compatibility: All handle styles and smart locks

All handles work with standard aluminium entrance doors. The included through-bolt fixings suit most aluminium frame profiles. Check your frame width to ensure the handle length suits your door proportions.

  • Standard aluminium frames — fully compatible
  • Narrow stile aluminium — compatible (check frame width for handle length)
  • Commercial aluminium — fully compatible

Glass Doors

Compatibility: Most handle styles (professional installation recommended)

Our handles can be fitted to frameless glass doors using appropriate glass-rated fixings. We recommend professional installation for glass doors to ensure proper drilling and sealing.

  • Tempered glass — compatible (requires glass-rated fixings, not included)
  • Laminated glass — compatible (requires glass-rated fixings, not included)
  • Double-glazed units — not recommended for through-bolt mounting

uPVC / PVC Doors

Compatibility: Limited

uPVC doors typically have their own integrated handle systems. Our pull handles can be fitted to some uPVC doors but may require additional reinforcement. Contact us to discuss your specific door.

Handle Mounting Configurations

Back-to-Back (Pairs)

Two handles mounted on opposite sides of the door, connected through the door with bolts. This is the most common configuration for entrance doors. All our handles are available in back-to-back pairs.

Single-Sided

One handle on the outside of the door only. Suitable when the inside has a different handle or lock mechanism. All styles available as single-sided.

Smart Locks & Electric Handles

Our smart locks and electric handles are compatible with the same door types as our pull handles. They are designed to be paired with our pull handle range for a complete entrance solution. When bundling a handle and smart lock, both mount independently — no special prep required beyond standard lock and handle cutouts.

Measuring Your Door

Before ordering, measure:

  1. Door thickness — standard is 35-45mm for residential, 45-70mm for commercial
  2. Door height — helps determine the right handle length for visual proportion
  3. Existing hole positions — if replacing existing handles, measure centre-to-centre distance of existing holes

Recommended Handle Lengths

  • Standard single door (820mm wide): 400-600mm handle
  • Wide entrance door (1000mm+): 600-800mm handle
  • Double doors: 600-1000mm handles (one per leaf)
  • Pivot doors: 800-1000mm handles for visual impact
